Britest to partner in £22m REMEDIES project

Britest’s role in the REMEDIES (RE-configuring MEDIcines End-to-end Supply) project will help the UK pharmaceutical industry develop enhanced process understanding to improve medicines manufacturing and supply.

The project was launched in 2014 and has recently accelerated into its next phase following the approval of £11.2 million of UK government funding through the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI). This is matched by £11 million funding from industry.

The four year project will look at the whole pharmaceutical supply chain with an emphasis on continuous processes and directly links to Britest’s innovation focus in this area.

Britest's specific involvement is in a work stream looking at ‘primary to secondary’ processing i.e. taking the active pharmaceutical ingredient from isolation through to tablet or other dosage form. Our overall contribution to the project will focus on two key areas:

  • Working with project partners to develop process understanding across key aspects of the pharmaceutical supply chain.
  • Working with Cogent on the development of training and dissemination materials to support skills development
