New collaborative project for the ‘Digital Design of Drug Products’ Launched

Britest is a key partner in a new collaborative innovation project focused on the design, manufacturing processes and performance of formulated drug products. Digital Design of Drug Product is a two-year project, co-funded by Innovate UK and includes partners AstraZeneca, Pfizer, GSK, Britest and Process Systems Enterprise.

The concept for the project originated from a Britest-led workshop where a need for collaborative research into the development of tools to support this important area of activity was identified. A successful application for funding was submitted and the £1 million project commenced on 2nd June 2014.

Britest’s input to the project will be led by Martin Edwards who has recently been recruited for his extensive experience in formulated product development.

Our aims and objectives within this project are to develop a methodology for using Britest tools in the development of solid formulated products / manufacturing processes and the use of generic Britest tool templates for common solids processing operations.  In addition, it is intended to develop guidance for effective information exchange between Britest tools and simulation packages, reducing numerical model complexity and streamlining the modelling workflow.
