New Year Message
from Britest CEO

On behalf of the Britest Team, may I wish all our members a very peaceful and prosperous
New Year.
Sue Fleet

2012 promises to be yet another busy, challenging and exciting year.

From a Britest perspective, our priority is to ensure that you are fully supported in your efforts to derive  value from your Britest membership.

To this extent, we shall continue with the strategic review meetings we established in 2011, which have been well received. These meetings are proving to be highly beneficial in helping members focus on how and where the Britest tools and methodologies can add value, as well as helping us to understand the challenges and opportunities you face within your respective organisations and industry sectors .

As a global organisation at the forefront of process innovation, Britest has the potential to create tangible differentiation and value for your businesses. However, the benefits are not solely delivered though individual application of the Britest tools and methodologies but also through the richness of dialogue and interaction between us. Simply put, the more we all put in the more we get out!

We constantly strive to make your experience of working within the Britest collaboration as easy as possible. To this extent, I’d like to draw your attention particularly to our Members’ Extranet site  – launched in November 2011. If you have not already registered your details for accessing the site, I strongly encourage you to do so via the homepage www.britest.co.uk. From here, you will be able to access a wide range of information, training materials and downloadable resources to support you.

From this year, we will also be publishing an Events Calendar to give you full visibility of all the workshops, events and meetings being arranged. It is hoped that this will help you in planning attendance at meetings as well as enabling sharing opportunities for training/facilitation when the Britest team are in your Region.

During 2012, we shall be developing proposals for two significant areas of work in physical processing (solid and liquid) and bio-processing.  If you have a particular interest in these projects and are not already involved, please do let us know so that we can include you in discussions/meetings as the projects develop.

I hope you enjoy reading our new format newsletter and the newly launched Members' Extranet site.

I look forward to meeting  as many of possible of you during 2012.

Britest welcomes Amy Peace

Tools and Methodologies Update

Our new Members' Extranet site is your dedicated resource centre for all the latest information on the use of Britest tools, methodologies and enablers.

Each Britest tool and methodology has a dedicated page explaining its purpose, information needs, guidance for use in extracting value - as well as supporting documents and templates where these are available.

During 2012, we will be adding member case studies demonstrating the use of the tools and methodologies in specific situations. If members have any novel uses of the tools to share please contact mark.talford@britest.co.uk. Remember that any case studies shared count as a members' 'in-kind' contribution.

Coming soon:

  • Choice of Phase Strategy (CoPS)  – see below.
  • Plant Cleaning – a methodology for using Britest tools to address plant cleaning issues
  • A Member Case Study highlighting use of Britest tools and methodologies for  identifying whole process flowsheet options.

PILLS project nears completion

As the EU FP7 PILLS (Process Intensification of Liquid-Liquid reaction Systems) project nears completion, Britest is busy finalising a suite of e-learning modules which will be available for dissemination from March 22 onwards.

During the projects 3-year duration, Britest has led a programme of work on generic methodological development. Outputs from this will be a Choice of Phase Strategy (CoPS) methodology and checklists to help process development teams decide whether the use of intensified, structured equipment could give benefits for a process under development.

A final dissemination event for the project will be held in Brussels on March 22, 2012. Places will be limited so if you wish to attend please contact Jeremy.double@britest.co.uk as soon as possible.

F3 Factory Interest Group Meeting

Over 50 representatives from leading European industrial and academic organisations came together in November to participate in the 2nd annual F3 Factory Interest Group Meeting.

Held at the newly opened INVITE Research Center in Leverkusen, the event provided a timely opportunity to showcase recent developments in the F3 Factory and, in particular, the new flexible, modular production concepts being developed within the project.

If you wish to be kept informed of developments within the F3 Factory project, receive the annual Newsletter, or attend future Interest Group meetings, please send your contact details to: donna.rawson@britest.co.uk
